Information for Referrers
Who is an appropriate recipient for neuropsychology services?
Anyone with cognitive issues (e.g. memory, attention, language, reasoning) would be a good candidate for a neuropsychology service. For example, suspected or diagnosed neurodegenerative conditions (such as Alzheimer’s disease or vascular dementia), ADHD, autism, traumatic brain injury, stroke, epilepsy, inflammatory diseases, psychiatric conditions, developmental disorders and intellectual disabilities. Neuropsychologists specialise in the assessment and treatment of cognitive, behavioural and psychological issues in order to:
Assist with diagnosis
Monitor changes over time (e.g. before and after neurosurgery or following a new treatment regime)
Improve cognitive issues with cognitive therapies (and with psychotherapy where needed).
Identify cognitive strengths and weaknesses
